End of Season Wrap-Up

Hello Bandits!

With our year end banquet in the books – our 2022/23 Indoor Season has officially come to a close.  We would once again like to thank all of our volunteer coaches – who are the lifeblood of a successful youth sports organization and we truly believe we have a fantastic working staff in place that is getting better each year.

Year End Results – All 14 Bandit teams finished in the top 2 Divisions of the OVA.  We had 8 Division 1 teams and 6 Division 2 teams.  We are committed to running high quality teams at every level that are extremely competitive.  Our teams finished in the Top 8 of the entire OVA in 5 of the 7 age categories.  Five teams competed in Pittsburgh for the East Coast Championships in May.  All 5 Bandit teams won their playoff brackets to go an impressive 16-0 for the day as a club.  16u National, 17u National and 18u National all won their respective tournaments to close their seasons!

18u Graduates – once again, we would like to wish our graduating players the best of luck as they move on with their careers on and off the court.  These girls have been tremendous ambassadors for the club!  Eight of our graduating Bandits are signed to suit up next year in the OUA, OCAA and NCAA.  We look forward to following their progress.

Layne Van Buskirk – one of our former players has been selected as a member of our Senior Women’s National team.  Layne started all 4 of Canada’s matches in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), which is the 3rd highest competition in the world behind the Olympics and World Championships.  Layne was Canada’s leading point scorer in a 3-0 loss to Thailand with 10 points and in our 3-0 win over Korea with 18 points.  Way to go Layne!  We are extremely proud of you.

Ontario Volleyball High Performance – we had an impressive 11 Bandits selected to the different OVA High Performance programs.  Juliana Miecz and Maija Nepszy were selected to the Team Ontario Red program.  Anisa Lapointe, Grace Paterson, Sienna Jancevski and Rachel Ricketts were selected to the Team Ontario White program.  Sophia Nepszy, Hannah Hage, Makenna McCann and Isabella Cole were selected to the Regional program.  Emery Stapleton was selected to the Tall Maples program.  Best of luck to you guys with your training opportunities this summer!

Jimmy El-Turk – we are extremely pleased and excited to announce that Jimmy will be spending more time with our club and players next season.  Jimmy will be our High Performance Co-ordinator who will be responsible for organizing and running our High Performance training sessions.  Jimmy will also be providing additional training opportunities for all members of the club as well.  Stay tuned!

Julie-Ann Milling – congrats goes out to Julie-Ann for being named the Head Volleyball Coach of the St. Clair College Women’s Volleyball program.  We wish Coach Jules the best of luck in her new role and we look forward to continue working with her and the St. Clair program.

Planning for next year – as everything gets worked out and organized over the coming months, we will announce the details as they become available.  Coaching staffs, tryout information will be posted once it becomes finalized.

We wish everyone a fantastic summer on the beach, golf course, soccer pitch, ball diamond or simply getting some much deserved R and R and look forward to seeing everyone back in the gym next fall!

Yours in Volleyball,

SC Bandits Board
